CAR PARK - Shortz Night 2003
As part of his duties at the University
of Salford, last year, Car Park writer Bill McCoid, formed a team of young
filmmakers dedicated to the public screening of quality student short films,
hence Shortznight.
This year the Shortznight team, Bill, David Brennan, Jo Dyrlaga and Julian
Bethall, have been joined by final year student Ben Bangbahla and Carole
O’Reilly, Head of Media at University of Salford.
Last years debut ‘Shortz Night’ premiered the short films of sixteen exciting
new student directors from the University of Salford at the Cornerhouse Cinema
in Manchester.
The night was a sell out success and several of the films have gone on to be
shown on Manchester’s own television channel, Channel M and at national film
festivals. The event was covered by various media including local news, Key 103
Radio and Channel M as well as featuring on the BBC website.
The filmmakers have since gone on to make a new collection of short films and we
are delighted to be able to invite you to Shortz Night 2003. Year Two promises
to be bigger and better, with not one, but two nights. This year for the first
time ever the films will be screened in London.
The first night is taking place on the 27th November in the heart of London's
West End at the famous Other Cinema closely followed by Manchester’s prestigious
Cornerhouse Cinema on the 9th December.
You will get the chance to vote for your favourite films and awards will be
presented by a celebrity guest in the bar after both screenings.
At the London screening The Audience Award for Best Film will be presented by
the playwright, comedian and broadcaster Arthur Smith.
